IGU Special Projects 2009-2012 Triennium: Building Strategic Human Capital

This Special project is being undertaken by Task Force 1, chaired by Ms Ieda Gomes, United Kingdom

Objective

  • To understand the key issues impacting the attraction and retention of talent in the gas industry and develop a strategic approach to human capacity building to ensure sufficient capable manpower are available for the future sustainability of the industry

 

Key Concerns

  • Nearly 90% of senior HR executives at 22 top international oil and gas companies believe the industry faces a major talent shortage.
  • Up to 50% of the workforce will retire in the next 10 years, leading to a great “crew change”.
  • Negative perception of the industry is discouraging many newcomers into the industry.
  • Human capital issues will have an effect on the long-term sustainability of the industry
